Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 4, 2026 · Applies to the L’Aube iOS app and laubeparis.com

The short version: we collect what the product needs and nothing more, we sell nothing to anyone, your journal is private, and you can delete everything whenever you wish. The long version follows, in plain words.

1. Who we are

L’Aube (“we,” “us”) provides a daily companion app for people settling in Paris. For privacy questions or requests, contact hello@laubeparis.com. We are the data controller for the information described here.

2. What we collect, and why

  • Account: your email address, used to sign you in (via one-time codes or sign-in links) and to answer support requests.
  • Profile you give us: the details you share during onboarding — name you’d like used, year of birth, home address in Paris, arrival date, French level, interests, mobility and technology comfort, and similar preferences. Why: this is the raw material of personalization — which places we suggest, how walks are paced, how phrases are pitched.
  • Your journal: the entries, moods, and photos you choose to save. Why: so you can keep them. They are yours; see section 4.
  • Activity in the app: which days and quests you’ve completed, trail progress, songs played — so your Journey screen works and so we never repeat what should not repeat.
  • Service logs: our backend records technical events (timings, error codes, request kinds) to keep the service healthy. These logs are sanitized by design: they do not contain your journal text, address, or the content of your days.

We do not collect advertising identifiers, and the app contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

3. How the AI personalization works

Your daily content is written by AI (Anthropic’s Claude models) orchestrated by our own service. Three commitments:

  • Your journal is never sent to the AI verbatim. Entries are privately distilled into short summaries (“enjoyed the market; tires on hills”), and only those summaries inform future days.
  • Your exact address is never placed into the visible text of your days. It anchors place selection server-side.
  • AI providers do not use your content to train their models under the commercial terms we use.

4. Your journal

Journal entries and photos are stored securely, associated only with your account, and shown to no one else. We do not read them except (a) automatically, to produce the private summaries described above, or (b) if you explicitly send us something in a support conversation. Deleting your account deletes them.

5. Who processes data on our behalf

We use a small number of infrastructure providers, each bound by their own contractual data-protection obligations:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage;
  • Anthropic — AI text generation (via our gateway, per section 3);
  • Cloudflare — network routing and AI request gateway;
  • Apple — app distribution and all subscription billing. We never see your payment card; Apple sends us only an anonymous entitlement (“this account has an active subscription”).

We do not sell personal data, we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and there are no “partners” with side agreements.

6. Where your data lives

Our infrastructure providers may store and process data in the European Union and/or the United States, under standard contractual safeguards for international transfers. If you use L’Aube from France (most of you do), your rights under the GDPR apply in full.

7. How long we keep things

For as long as you keep your account. Delete your account and we delete your profile, journal, photos, memories, and activity. Sanitized technical logs (which contain no personal content) age out on a rolling basis. Backups purge deleted data on their own short cycle.

8. Your rights

Wherever you live — and certainly under the GDPR — you can: access what we hold about you, correct it, export it, restrict or object to processing, and delete it. The app itself covers the common cases: your profile is editable in Settings, and Settings → Delete account removes everything. For anything else, email hello@laubeparis.com; we respond within 30 days, and you may also lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority (in France, the CNIL).

9. Notifications & permissions

Local reminders (like your morning nudge) are scheduled on your device and can be changed or disabled in Settings at any time. Photos you attach are accessed through the system photo picker — we never scan your library. The app requests no location permission; personalization is based on the address you typed, not on tracking you.

10. Children

L’Aube is not directed to children and is intended for users 18 and over.

11. Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so plainly in the app and on this page, with the new effective date above. No silent edits.
